The Spit Game UK: My Kind of Black

  • Science Gallery London Great Maze Pond London, England, SE1 United Kingdom (map)

“Even in schools that claim to embrace diversity, it is Black faces that are celebrated whilst Black cultures are often chastised”
Benjamin Turner, The Spit Game UK

MY KIND OF BLACK
is a celebration of self-expression and authenticity, championing the vibrant variety of young Black talent and cultures through film, rap and spoken word.

Curated by young Black creatives from collective The Spit Game UK – and speaking directly to young Black people – the exhibition will draw on and share the collective’s approach to using creativity as a tool for healing and self-expression.

The exhibition will showcase four new films created by The Spit Game UK as part of their year-long Just Futures residency, including their powerful short film Help! I Think My Teacher is Racist, commissioned by and filmed on location at Science Gallery London.

The films have been made in response to the collective’s own experiences and research conducted in local secondary schools, and in collaboration with researchers in the Arts & Humanities faculty at King’s College London.

The exhibition has been developed in partnership with The Spit Game UK, the Impact & Knowledge Exchange Team in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at King’s College London and Science Gallery London.
