Ella Finer and Janna Levin in Conversation: Quantum Storytelling and The Cosmic Oval
Science Gallery London, Saturday 11 October, 2.00pm – 3.30pm
We hosted an afternoon of conversation with writer Ella Finer and physicist and author Janna Levin. The discussion was chaired by Lily Jencks, Keeper of Vision at The Cosmic House, and enriched by a response from Tony Milligan, Research Fellow in the Philosophy of Ethics, Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King’s College London. Together, they explored the resonances of Ella Finer’s book, The Cosmic Oval.
Through the discussion of Ella Finer's book, the event invited audiences into the entanglement of cosmology and culture, examining how cosmic discoveries influence cultural narratives and the composing of histories. Janna Levin shared insights from her groundbreaking work on the nature of time and black holes, while Ella Finer illuminated how she responded to these concepts in her recent work. Together, they considered how ideas such as quantum mechanics and metaphors in science impact our wider culture. The Cosmic Oval was available for purchase and signing during the event, with opportunities for discussion and exchange.
The Cosmic Oval was a new commission by The Cosmic House as part of their ‘Post-Modern Cosmologies’ series, published in collaboration with Spiral House Editions, a new imprint of Silver Press.
