Cibelle Cavalli Bastos

q.png

Cibelle Cavalli Bastos’ new installation emerges from a community of non-binary artists and developers who build and share filters on Instagram. The artist has created an immersive augmented reality (AR) environment which subverts and fragments how we see each other and perceive ourselves.

Bastos is fascinated by how social media can encourage self-reflection and also enable collective solidarity. For gender non-conforming people who can’t openly express their identity in daily life, this is vital.

Fantastical sculptures float past as the installation transforms your face and those of the people around you. Scan the QR codes to explore more filters and Instagram stories, part of the artist's ongoing attempts to resist the sometimes unwelcome gendered ideas that shape us, both on and off social media.
