Weather Memories
Talking about the weather goes hand in hand with living in the UK. Whether it’s sunny or stormy, it affects everyone. How does weather impact our daily lives, particularly at a time when climate change is leading to more extreme weather events?
Weather Memories is a collection of oral history interviews about the weather and how it has changed across the East of England. Through their work, King’s researchers George Adamson, Jessica Rapson and Anna Woodham explore the relationship between weather, identity, and memories. Archiving these memories helps us understand more about the impact of weather on people’s lives, and how people understand the sense of a place and how it is changing through the weather.
Dr George Adamson (Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences and Public Policy) focuses on the complex relationships between climate and society. Since 2016, he has also convened King's Climate Research Hub, a multidisciplinary research cluster focused on questions at the intersection of climate science and society. He is chair of the postgraduate Faculty Assessment Board in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy.
Jessica Rapson (Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries, Faculty of Arts and Humanities) has been a lecturer at Royal Holloway, London South Bank University and Goldsmiths College, where she completed her PhD. She has previously worked in Collections Management at Brighton Museum and the Wallace Collection, London. Jessica has published widely on memory, commemoration and difficult heritage, including the monograph Topographies of Suffering: Buchenwald, Babi Yar, Lidice (Berghahn 2015), and edited collections on transcultural and planetary memory.
Anna Woodham (Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries, Faculty of Arts and Humanities) is a Senior Lecturer in Museum and Heritage Studies. Anna holds a PhD from the University of Leicester exploring social inclusion and the geography of school visits to museums. Anna comes from a policy and museum practice background, and has worked in policy and museum sector roles, including posts at the Fitzwilliam Museum (University of Cambridge) and the British Dental Association Museum, among others.
