HOOKED - OPEN NOW

We’d like to welcome you to the first ever season in our permanent new home: HOOKED: When Want Becomes Need!

A free (yes, free!) exhibition and event programme will delve into the complex world of addiction and recovery. From gambling to gaming, smartphones to social media, HOOKED questions what makes us as humans vulnerable to addiction and considers the underlying factors and routes to recovery.

FULL SEASON OVERVIEW HERE

Leading voices on the science of addiction from King’s College London, including researchers from the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience (IoPPN), are interwoven into video installations, interactive artworks and immersive experiences featured within the season.

HOOKED invites you to challenge the stigmas associated with addiction, consider addiction as a health issue we are all susceptible to, and explore how recovery takes many forms.

Developed in association with people who have a lived experience of addiction, HOOKED features established and up-and-coming artists and photographers from across the globe, including Rachel Maclean’s Feed Me; photographs from Olivia Locher’s Another Day on Earth series; Richard Billingham’s Tony Smoking Backwards, Playstation and Jason Chopping; Melanie Manchot’s Twelve and Joachim Koester’s The Hashish Club.

The events programme will continue the conversations sparked by the artworks you’ll see in the exhibition. Bringing together over 25 King’s researchers, artists featured in the exhibition and people with lived experience of addiction, we invite you to question and consider addiction and recovery from an array of perspectives: How and why do we become addicted? What are the processes of individual and societal recovery? How can we protect ourselves and people living with addiction from harm? And does our consumerist society have a hand in feeding addiction?

Don’t miss the first ever Science Gallery London season in our new home!
