King's College London will be opening the doors to Science Gallery London for the first time in September 2018. The Preview Weekend runs from Friday 21st September to Sunday 23rd September. Come along and be one of the first to see and explore Science Gallery London.

First announced in 2013 (where does the time go?), the Gallery's new home on Guy’s Campus at King’s College London will be a space where science and art collide, showcasing collaborations between King's researchers, artists and young adults to address contemporary subjects in a thought-provoking way.

The Gallery's location in London Bridge is just moments from the Shard and will feature exhibition spaces on the first floor, a theatre in the basement and a café and shop on the ground floor – quite the change from its history as part of the 18th century Guy’s Hospital! A beautiful Georgian courtyard can be found on the west side of the building, which has been transformed from a car park into a public square.

Science Gallery London's Young Leaders, a group of 15-25 year olds from Southwark, Lambeth and the King’s student community, will play a crucial role in the direction of its future programme. Young Leader and King’s neuroscience student Bella Spencer believes the new gallery will draw in young people from south London and beyond. She said:

“Science Gallery London will challenge us all to think about the big issues affecting our world. It will be a vibrant, interactive space where science isn’t hidden away in labs and art isn’t behind a velvet rope. Through Science Gallery London, King’s is making science and culture accessible to everyone, allowing young people the chance to interact with new discoveries and original thinking.”

Science Gallery London will host three seasons a year featuring exhibitions and events, beginning with HOOKED, which will delve into the complex world of addiction and recovery. From gambling to gaming and smartphones to social media, HOOKED will question what makes us as humans vulnerable to addiction and interrogate the underlying factors and routes to recovery. Artists, scientists and researchers including Rachel Maclean, Melanie Manchot and King’s academic Dr Sally Marlow will invite visitors to explore the latest research and thinking on the subject and to share your ideas about this topic.
