Earlier this year, we put out a call to 15-25 year olds who live, work or study in our local boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth to become an integral part of what Science Gallery London does and how it does it by becoming part of our Young Leaders programme. Almost 100 young adults told us how they wanted to champion the voices of their communities and their experiences and how they felt Science Gallery could be the ideal platform to achieve this. We were overwhelmed with the passion and energy in the applications we received. After hours of conversation, deliberation, blood, sweat and tears (ok, maybe not those last three…) we are overjoyed to announce that nine amazing young people are the latest addition to the Science Gallery family.

From biomedical students to digital artists, chemistry grads to emerging film-makers, the team bring a range of experience and perspectives from across the art and science spectrum and a shared ambition to learn, work together and make their mark on the cultural landscape of London. Their practice over the next year will embed our commitment to creating a space where all 15-25 year olds feel welcome and where the stories of our local community are seen and heard.

Over the next year Science Gallery London will be shaped and guided by the Young Leaders through curation, consultation and creative thinking, including producing a weekend festival in the autumn of 2018.
Expect to see and hear a lot more from these guys in the lead up to our opening later this year.
