Dementia Journeys: Comics Drawing and Storytelling Workshop

  • Science Gallery London Great Maze Pond London, England, SE1 United Kingdom (map)

This drawing and storytelling workshop will be led by Dr Ian Williams , an award-winning comics artist, educator, and doctor. Ian created cartoon depictions of carer’s stories and research conducted by UCL and King’s College London, which informs Science Gallery London’s current exhibition Dementia Journeys: Towards Better End of Life Care.

Dementia Journeys powerfully presents the experiences of those who care for people dying with dementia and uncovers ways in which care could be improved. The use of cartoon as a storytelling method in the exhibition, centres the lived experiences of the carers and their loved ones in a way that is relatable, easily to understand and emotive. This workshop will explore the power of drawing, the potency of cartoon as a means of expression and encourage attendees to create their own art to share complex stories around this topic.

Two early-career dementia researchers who worked as part of the EMBED-Care project which delivered the Dementia Journeys exhibition, will join Ian for this event.

Limited spaces available. Please register (free) for this event.

Catering and drinks will be provided.
