What We Do

Science Gallery London is a place to grow new ideas across art, science and health. A part of King’s College London, we’re the university’s flagship public gallery situated on King’s Guy’s Campus next to London Bridge station.

As a university-based gallery, we try to spark new ways of thinking about some of the most complex contemporary challenges we face. The work we share here emerges from dialogue and collaborations between communities of artists, academics, students, young people, activists, local organisations and more.

The Gallery brings together a breadth of perspectives to shape and share a programme of exhibitions, residencies, workshops, open discussions, festivals, performances and live research.

With the exception of our ticketed partnership with LIFT Festival for Bat Night Market, entry to all of our exhibitions and events is free. Our doors are open for you to explore.

OUR CONSTITUENT MODEL

Our programme is the product of dialogue and collaboration across four constituent groups:

  • The research community at King’s

  • The student community at King’s

  • 18 – 25 year olds in our local boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark

  • Artists and the creative community across sectors

OUR PRINCIPLES

The following principles inform the decisions we make about programming, supporting and platforming people and projects:

  • Bridging gaps – is there a breadth of perspectives? Are we bringing together new groups of collaborators within and across our constituencies?

  • Equitable relationships – are we valuing both lived and professional experiences? Whose perspectives might be missing? Are relationships rooted in reciprocity and curiosity?

  • Public experience – is there an engaging, inventive, playful public experience? Is this the best format for the project’s intentions?

  • Research and education – does this have a focus on a contemporary or future social issue? Is it opening up and sharing King’s research and education?

  • Reflective practice – is there clarity about this project’s intent? Do we have a means of understanding and learning from its impact?

A PART OF KING’S COLLEGE LONDON

Science Gallery London is a part of King’s Culture, the knowledge exchange institute that works to enhance the impact and engagement of King’s research through creative approaches and collaborations.

Through Science Gallery London, King’s seeks to:

  • Shape and share its research with wider audiences, through collaboration with a breadth of perspectives and life experiences

  • Enhance the student experience

  • Support the growth of science, research and cultural capital. This includes taking King’s world-leading research beyond the walls of the institution to increase the impact of this work on addressing some of our most pressing global challenges

  • Shape and participate in innovative collaboration with its local communities, visitors, companies and other organisations, across London, the UK and internationally, including across the cultural sector

King’s is working towards its 2029 Strategic Vision. As a civic university in the heart of London, Science Gallery London’s programme of work uniquely supports strategic objectives for this vision.

A PART OF SCIENCE GALLERY INTERNATIONAL

We are part of the Global Science Gallery Network pioneered by Trinity College Dublin, connecting King’s to communities worldwide. There are eight Science Galleries across the world, and each is a platform for live research and experimentation – exposing local communities to unexpected and surprising exhibitions and inspiring the next generation of creative thinkers.
