Entering the Machine Zone II (2018)
Katriona’s work explores the theory that a major driver for gamblers is not money, but the dissociative, trance like state that continual play generates. She compares this to the state she enters into while endlessly surfing the Internet. Her seductive scrolling feed of vibrant digital images mashes up slot machine motifs with the infinite scroll of social media. But are you watching EMZ II, or is it watching you?
Co-commissioned by Science Gallery London with Furtherfield and supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Katriona Beales makes sculpture, moving image, performance and installation works. Seduced by the surface of the screen she attempts to respond critically to the slippages between online and offline worlds, and to networked cultures.
